Crossing the Torpoint Ferry from Plymouth:

Follow the signs towards the city centre in Plymouth until you start finding signs to Torpoint and the A374. Follow these signs to the Torpoint Chain Ferry (24 hours, crossing time @ 7 – 8 minutes, queuing time 0 – 60 minutes, worst in rush hours). On the other side, in Torpoint itself, stay on the A374 to the Village of Antony. Branch to the left, signposted Millbrook B3247 (and other destinations), leaving the Ring O’Bells pub on your right. Follow the instructions from Antony as below.

Going by road, avoiding the Torpoint Ferry:

Continue past Plymouth on the A38, cross the Tamar bridge into Cornwall, and stay on the A38 for Liskeard until the Trerulefoot Roundabout. Turn left onto the A374 for Torpoint and continue through Polbathic to Antony. Turn very sharp right onto the B3247 to Millbrook (this involves going round the Ring O’Bells pub)

From Antony:

Go up through Antony into the countryside till you reach a T-junction. Turn left, sign-posted Millbrook B3247. Go past the entrance to Tregantle Fort (MOD) and within two hundred yards turn right onto the coast road, sign-posted “Whitsand yourself in Millbrook, it is best to turn round and come back, rather than trying to make your way through.

*Follow the coast road for 3.3 miles (useful to know when it’s dark or misty) from the Whitsand Bay turning, and at the point that the road leaves the coast and bends round and down to the left (towards Cawsand and Kingsand) you will see the entrance to our drive on the right. Follow the drive down for half a mile till you reach the Fort.

* * *

* People quite regularly do miss this turning, and they end up by approaching the Fort having passed through Millbrook, and after passing by the villages of Kingsand and Cawsand. If this happens, you should avoid turning left at a small grass triangle, where it is signposted to Rame (& comes to a dead end past the church at the coast guard station). Continue on the main road past this turning up the hill till you reach the top, where you will see the Fort drive entrance and sign directly in front of you.

By Car:

Fuel  stops
If you are driving from West or East ie Saltash or Liskeard, your last fuel station is at Trerulefoot roundabout (A38). This is a 24-hour Shell station. If you are driving via Torpoint, there is an Esso fuel station in the main street, (A374) open daily from 0700 to 2200. There is a filling station in the nearby village of Milbrook, but opening hours are limited.

Bridge and Ferry Toll:

If you are driving back towards Plymouth after the event, you will be required to pay a toll on both the Saltash bridge and the Ferry. The toll is £1.50 (or 75p with a Tamar Tag).

Torpoint Ferry Timetable:

The Torpoint Ferry runs all night and day, but by night reduces to a one-ferry half-hourly service between 10pm and 6am. Ferries leave the Torpoint side at night on the hour and half past the hour, (unless disrupted by an emergency).

By Train:

The closest main line station is at Plymouth. We suggest you take the train to Plymouth, then take a taxi to the Cremyll Ferry. There is a taxi rank outside the station and the trip is around ten-fifteen minutes depending on traffic.

Cremyll Ferry:

The Cremyll Ferry is a small foot passenger vessel which leaves Stonehouse in Plymouth, and docks after an approximately 8 minutes trip in Cremyll. The fare is £1.30 for adults per journey. The timetable is available on the ferry website. If this is your first journey across the Tamar, prepare to be amazed at the views!

From Cremyll take a taxi to the fort, which will take less than ten minutes. We advise you to book your taxi in advance, so that you are not hanging around. Kernow Cars: 01752 822200

Alternatively, there may be guests already at the Fort who might be willing and able to collect you from the Cremyll Ferry.

On Foot:

If you are lucky enough to be travelling on foot, there’s a fair chance you live locally and are familiar with the area. However if not, there are a few options:

• Local taxis from wherever you are located.
• Plymouth/Torpoint/Milbrook bus service no. 70 on weekdays and 70A on Sundays – picks up from the City centre through Stoke Village or Stonehouse via torpoint and onto Whitsand Bay. Just tell the driver you want to get off at the stop closest to the Fort.
• Cremyll Ferry (as above) and a taxi to the Fort.

Taxis:

"A fantastic venue with flexibility and versatility to suit all sorts of weddings. We had our dream wedding outside as well as being able to choose exactly what food we wanted and stock our very important bar! Staff helped the day run smoothly and we had the added bonus of a wedding debrief bbq the day after for more fun in the sun and an attempt to drink the bar dry! There aren't many places in the UK you can have a swim in the sea from your very own beach before your big day." Carrie

"Most importantly we had the absolutely most wonderful day imaginable. All our guests were amazed at the venue, the setting, view, and area as no one had visited this part of the country. Polhawn Fort through the process were extremely helpful. We were able to view multiple times before our day to help with planning. Polhawn fort's team were on hand to help bring everything down from the car park on their quad bike. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
We are so grateful we choose Polhawn Fort." Thomas H, Feb 2020.
Reaching out into the English Channel in the south Reaching out into the English Channel in the southeast corner of Cornwall, the Rame Peninsula is something of a forgotten – and unspoilt – corner of the county. As you weave your path along the breathtaking ocean road towards this secluded spot, you’ll see Polhawn Fort nestled on the western tip, where the land meets the sea. 💙
